🏰 Palakkad Fort – The Historic Heart of Palakkad, Kerala
Palakkad Fort, also known as Tipu’s Fort, is a well-preserved historical fort located right in the center of Palakkad town, Kerala. This iconic monument is a testament to the architectural and military brilliance of the 18th century.
പാലക്കാട് കോട്ട, അഥവാ ടിപ്പുയുടെ കോട്ട എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്, പാലക്കാട് നഗരത്തിന്റെ മധ്യഭാഗത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു നന്നായി സംരക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ട ചരിത്രസ്മാരകമാണ്. 18-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ സൈനികവും വാസ്തുവിദ്യാപരവുമായ കഴിവുകൾ പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു സ്മാരകമാണിത്.

🛡️ History
The fort was originally built by Hyder Ali, the Sultan of Mysore, in 1766 AD. Its strategic location allowed him to secure the Palakkad Pass, a key entry into Kerala from Tamil Nadu. Later, the fort was captured by the British in 1790 during their campaign against Tipu Sultan.
ഈ കോട്ട ആദ്യം മൈസൂരിന്റെ സുൽത്താനായ ഹൈദർ അലി ആണ് 1766-ൽ പണിതത്. തമിഴ്നാട്ടിൽ നിന്നും കേരളത്തിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിക്കാവുന്ന പ്രധാന വഴിയായ പാലക്കാട് ചുരം നിയന്ത്രിക്കാൻ ഇതിന് സഹായിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് 1790-ൽ, ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർ ടിപ്പു സുൽത്താനെതിരായ യുദ്ധത്തിൽ കോട്ട പിടിച്ചെടുത്തു.
🧱 Architecture & Features
The fort is built using granite stones in a square shape with thick laterite walls and bastions at every corner. A wide moat surrounds the fort for protection. Inside, you can still find old granaries, stables, and a jail. The fort grounds are now landscaped with walking paths and gardens.
ഈ കോട്ട ഗ്രാനൈറ്റ് കല്ലുകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ചതുരാകൃതിയിലായാണ് നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. കോണുകളിൽ ഉറപ്പുള്ള ബാസ്റ്റിയനുകൾ ഉണ്ട്, ചുറ്റും വളച്ച് കുളം (moat) സംരക്ഷണത്തിനായി നിർമ്മിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. കോട്ടയുടെ അകത്ത് പഴയ അറകൾ, കുതിരശാല, തടവുശാല തുടങ്ങിയവ ഇപ്പോഴും കാണാം. ഇന്ന് കോട്ടയുടെ ഉള്ളഭാഗം സുന്ദരമായ പാതകളും തോട്ടങ്ങളും ഉപയോഗിച്ച് നവീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
